Cádiz is the ideal program destination for Spanish language and cultural immersion. The oldest inhabited city in Western Europe, Cádiz is steeped in history while at the same time bursting with young people from all over Spain! The residential immersion aspect of the program places you in the heart of the city’s historical center. Our family-owned apartment residence offers views of the Santa Cruz Cathedral and is only minutes away from La Caleta beach, where you can relax daily on the white sand with your new Abbey Road friends. You will have your own room, access to the 24 hour computer lab, and enjoy meals prepared from scratch by the residence owners. While in Cádiz the Abbey Road staff will help you improve upon your conversational skills in a variety of ways. Classes are taught entirely in Spanish and are fun and engaging with city-based learning activities that take advantage of everything the local community has to offer. Whether you are getting information at the train station or interviewing locals in the park, you are constantly using your Spanish and most importantly, having fun! You will also have the option of enrolling in any one of our new elective courses: Community Service, Spanish Conversation, Spanish Literature or Flamenco Dance and Music. During your stay in Cádiz, there is never a dull moment. When you are not in class or spending free time exploring the shop lined city-streets, you can take advantage of the many cultural, social, and recreational activities, in addition to the week-end day trips Abbey Road will offer. In the past, our students have gone to Flamenco concerts, learned how to Salsa dance, participated in cooking workshops, sampled tapas and even attended professional sporting events. During the last four days of the program, there is an optional travel extension to Seville. Participants will explore every aspect of this incredible city famous for its thriving artistic culture, wealth of restaurants and lively plazas and Flamenco cafés. Come join us for the summer of a lifetime in Cádiz!

The Florence program brings together students from all art backgrounds and levels. However, if you are not interested in art, you will have the option to enroll in the art history class or in an Italian language class. The art history course is taught on-location throughout the city of Florence. While learning about Michelangelo, you’ll be in the Academia looking at the original David. You will see some of the most important artwork in the world! For art, the choices are: Drawing, Contemporary Mixed Media, or Oil Painting. The instructors are professional artists who also offer art activities and workshops throughout the program. From visiting local art galleries and colleges to marble papermaking, students love the artistic focus. Some students are coming to work on their art portfolios while others are really into art history; whichever your main interest is you will find that you fit in perfectly. You also get to experience different types of fun activities, events, workshops, cooking, etc. as well as have free time to hang out with your new friends. Our apartment residence is two blocks from the San Lorenzo outdoor markets in an authentic Italian neighborhood. The residence is centrally located allowing students to walk to many historical sights. The apartments have kitchens so you will be learning to prepare some of the most delicious, Italian recipes.
