In the Spotlight: Western Civilization
Academic Journey to Ancient Greece and Rome, Renaissance Florence and the French Enlightenment!
Follow in the footsteps of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Pericles, and Alexander the Great! Experience the Italian Renaissance first-hand while viewing Michelangelo’s David in the Galleria dell’Accademia! Go behind the scenes of the French Revolution and Enlightenment while exploring Paris! From the Acropolis to the Louvre, our pioneer program on Western Civilization is designed for adventurous and motivated students who are eager to learn first-hand about the origins and evolution of Western thought, culture and art, and will take you on a whirlwind four-week trek through Athens, Rome, Florence, and Paris!
The program follows the path of Western Civilization from Ancient Greeks to Ancient Romans, continuing to the Middle Ages, Renaissance and, finally, to the Enlightenment. The students will read and discuss the works of key authors from each historical era, while exploring important monuments and museums. They will also have time to enjoy themselves, visit the local sites, attend recreational activities, participate in sports, and make plenty of friends!
A typical day will start with an excursion to a historical site or a museum, followed by a lecture or a group discussion. After lunch, the students will participate in recreational activities or will have free time to explore the contemporary sides of our key destinations: Athens, Rome, Florence and Paris. In the evenings, students will also have activity options such as: outdoor concerts, cafés, time with friends and other relaxing activities. The weekend excursions will complement the academic program by taking students to many fascinating regional sites: Delphi, Pompeii, Siena, Versailles and many others.
So if you can't decide between Italy, France, or Greece...why not try them all in an exciting 4-week adventure that will not only introduce you to new friends and give you the time of your life, but boost your college applications at the same time!
In the Spotlight: Québec, Canada
Program on French Language and Francophone Culture!
This summer, students will experience Québec City's 400th anniversary celebration, with live music and other cultural events and exhibitions throughout the center of the province's capital city!
The most French city in North America, Québec is a must-see for anyone passionate about French culture. This beautiful city is located along the banks of the Saint Lawrence River and is the capital of the Canadian Provence of Québec. Students will be immersed in one of the most fascinating Francophone cultures in the world.
On weekend excursions, the group will travel to the towering Cathedral of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, take in the dramatic landscape of Canyon Falls, and spend a day on the small island community of Ile d'Orleans, where students can enjoy the locally grown strawberries and artisan chocolate.
Students will also explore the role Québec has played in the history and development of francophone culture. All of the daily activities, cultural events, travel excursions and academic workshops expose the students to the language, life and culture of the region.
Finally, there is no better way to end the three-week long immersion in Francophone language and culture than spending three nights in Montreal, the second largest French-speaking city in the world (second only to Paris!), with its culturally rich Latin Quarter, and the world famous Biodome!
